Forgive me if you've read my comments previously about people grumbling that there's no point in attending cleaning exhibitions "because there's never anything new in the cleaning industry". If you have of course, you'll be well aware of my consternation at this negative view and my argument that there is often real and sometimes clever innovation - you just have to be open to it.

I came across something last night that proved my point and although I have to say that I rarely get excited about new products these days (well I have been in the industry for more than 20 years now so it's only to be expected) this actually made me grin and I emailed the demonstration video across to John, who works from a different office, so he could have a look at it too.

For some 19 of the 20 years I've worked in the industry, I've known that people don't use block soap anymore. It's messy and unhygienic and it spreads germs. I thought it was dead and buried but no... Someone's found a novel way of using it and it's really rather clever. I don't normally use this leader to 'plug' products but this is one innovation that shows how (and I hate this phrase but...) 'thinking out of the box' can make people like me smile!

Do watch the video below with the story, 'From Australia - a really novel way of providing better hand hygiene' and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

Yours,
