Awards event in Scotland celebrates cleaning skills contest

* Winning-UK-Team-Fife-Council.jpgA triple awards ceremony has taken place to mark the achievements of cleaning staff who took part in the cleaning skills competition, the Team Clean Challenge.

The event, now in its fourth year, is run by Asset Skills, the Sector Skills Council for cleaning. It aims to celebrate the best trained cleaners, supervisors and managers within private companies (the open strand) and the prisons sector.

The ceremony took place in Glasgow to mark winners of the open strands in Scotland and England, and the prisons strand in Scotland. This year's awards were dominated by Scottish winners - most notably Fife Council, which won in several categories.

"This competition expects high standards of cleaning to be demonstrated by all the teams," said Richard Beamish, Chief Executive of Asset Skills. "We have been extremely impressed by the calibre of teams that entered the 2011 contest. The event is an opportunity for employers to showcase the skilled cleaning teams they have and to raise the profile of the industry."

The award for Best Prison Team in Scotland went to HMP Dumfries whose training manager reported raised morale as a result of the contest, which has also helped a number of their ex-offenders find employment as cleaners.

"Asset Skills would like to thank the partners and supporters from all the UK governments, employers, colleges, professional bodies and awarding organisations who have contributed to the success of the competition," said Richard Beamish.
