After some tasty German beer and food we were invited to choose from a selection of crisps, popcorn and sweets before entering the cinema and settling down on comfy leather chairs and sofas (with footstools!) to learn of the winners of the magazine's best ads awards, followed by Cannes' own advertising awards trailers. It all felt rather surreal, being with so many new industry friends and colleagues in such an unusual and relaxed environment, but it was lots of fun, and we're grateful to Reinhard for inviting us.

The feeling of it all being rather surreal continued the following evening when we were guests of Vermop at a cocktail party thrown by several of the major manufacturers. Having had our pictures taken on the red carpet we passed through the doorway of the night club to find there was a thick layer of sand all over the ground indoors and out. When we sat down I just had to take my shoes off and dip my feet in the sand and with the warm weather, masses of scrumptious food, delicious cocktails (with alcohol this time!), live band and the people we chatted to from many different countries, we felt we were on holiday in a holiday resort, rather than at work!

But back at work we are.  We do have some more stories and new product information that we picked up from Berlin to share with you both this week and over the coming weeks, but we also have lots of other general news too. Happy reading...
