How clean is your computer?

Did you know that the average desktop has around 150 times more bacteria than your kitchen table? It's a horrible thought and with many of us now eating 'al desko' we need to remember to keep them clean.

Ten years ago, Durable UK launched its annual Computer Cleaning Month to highlight the importance of keeping the personal office environment free from bacteria and, during October, the company will once again be opening your eyes to the germs that lurk in your computer equipment.

"We are extremely proud to have reached this impressive 10 year milestone," comments Sean Starkey, managing director of Durable UK. "We have worked hard over the years to grow the campaign and highlight the importance of a healthy desk. People are often unaware of how unhygienic their desks and computer equipment can become, especially as so many of us are now eating at our desks.

According to data from Initial Washroom Hygiene*, the computer mouse is the dirtiest item in the office, ahead of keyboards, phones and chairs, while 40% of the desks tested were home to at least one item with very high levels of bacteria and surface contamination, which posed a risk of cross-contamination.
