Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 163 countries worldwide! I used to work with a chap who'd disappear off to the washroom every morning with a newspaper, which - no doubt - he'd read whilst in the loo as he was always gone for around half an hour. I wonder if he'd have stayed in there for as long, had he been faced with the view offered by the latest winner of the America's Best Restroom Award... OdySea Aquarium's designers very cleverly placed the washrooms so that users are in a kind of observation tank but of course while you're staring at the fish, they're staring back at you and the thought of sharing with a huge shark such an intimate experience as using the loo may well encourage washroom users to speed up a little. Very clever! I was struck by the clever design of the washrooms in London's AquaShard when I visited, as the building's designers had gone to town in creating a room with a view. Having such memorable washrooms just adds to the experience but of course that only works if they're clean and well stocked - as these ones were. I'm not sure whether AquaShard was entered into the competition, but either way I'm looking forward to seeing who the winners are of this year's Loo of the Year Awards (www.loo.co.uk) in the UK. They'll be announced at a glittering ceremony on 8th December held in the West Midlands - not long now. It's odd to be writing about stand-out washrooms today, having this week been sifting through various press releases written to coincide with World Toilet Day (19th November) which highlighted the lack of toilet facilities for millions of people on this planet. I applaud the actions of those who are working hard to redress this huge imbalance, just as I applaud those whose job it is to keep the facilities that are available, well stocked, clean and a pleasure to use. Decent toilets should be accessible to all, shouldn't they? OdySea Aquarium reels in 'America's Best Restroom' title The public is hooked on the America's Best Restroom winner... Cintas Corporation has named the OdySea Aquarium in Scottsdale, Arizona as the winner of its 16th annual America's Best Restroom Award - and yes that is a real shark in the picture! Routine cleaning raises its game There's no excuse for low standards in high places when any cleaning team can vacuum high-level nooks and surfaces, says James White, managing director of Denis Rawlins. It is not uncommon at business seminars, especially after lunch, for the eyes - and attention - of the audience to veer slowly but inexorably away from the PowerPoint presentation. Nanopool GmbH to massively expand presence in China Nanopool's high-performance, multi-functional surface coatings are protecting buildings and industrial facilities and considerably reducing cleaning costs in Europe, the US and parts of Asia.
