Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 163 countries worldwide! BREAKING NEWS Karcher, Nilfisk, Greyland & TJ Killis to be interviewed by mainstream TV channels from Manchester Cleaning Show on Wednesday morning Well – in just under a week the Manchester Cleaning Show kicks off. It will be interesting to see how it goes, since it wasn’t that long ago that the consensus was that we move our national show down to London to attract people who weren’t prepared to go to Birmingham. The move worked. The London show was buzzing and people loved it. Visitors came from overseas as well as the far corners of the UK and Ireland. Then it was mooted that there was room for another, smaller show up in the north of England and the idea took off. Pre-registrations have surprised everyone and it looks as if those who’ve paid their money to exhibit will be giving themselves a pat on the back next Friday, when hopefully they’ll be able to see that they were right to have booked space. John Austen and I will be up there for the two-day event (6th and 7th April – my goodness – where has the year gone?) so if you’re exhibiting and wish to show off the products on your stand, do let us know in the early part of next week and we’ll make a point of stopping by to find out more. And if you’re a visitor and you happen to spot us, do please come and say hello. We’ll be interested in learning where you’re from, what made you decide to visit the show, what you’re hoping to find there and whether the journey has been worthwhile. See you there! Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine You can also follow us on Twitter @cleanzine Yours, This Week's News

Cromwell at the Manchester Cleaning Show 6th - 7th April, 2016, Event City, Manchester Cromwell Polythene (stand number F01) will showcase its flagship Professional range of refuse sacks for the away-from-home market at the inaugural Manchester Cleaning Show. The range includes two industry standards that set the bar for guaranteed quality, between them providing greater flexibility, both in performance and cost. Is Just-In-Time ordering still effective? Just-in-time (JIT) ordering started in Japan in the 1970s and spread to many parts of the world about decade later. Essentially, it is an inventory management system with the objective of having just enough inventory readily available to meet current demand but avoiding excess. Many cleaning contractors and cleaning & hygiene product manufacturers have adopted the practice over the past decade. So now is a good time to ask, has it proven successful? Not all refuse sacks are created equal BPI Recycled Products, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of refuse sacks and Europe's largest recycler of waste polythene, is proud to be exhibiting at both the Manchester Cleaning Show and ISSA/Interclean Amsterdam 2016. The company is a global business, recycling up to 95,000 tonnes of polythene film each year and supplying over 270,000 tonnes of polythene products to customers worldwide. Khemsoft offers environmentally sustainable non-destructive industrial cleaning A new industrial cleaning solution offered by Khemsoft, dry ice blasting, is an environmentally friendly and sustainable cleaning method that can help any business improve their environmental impact. Whether the commercial business needs a dry clean, it is trying to reduce the amount of water or chemicals used or is trying to enhance sanitation or cross-contamination prevention programmes, dry ice blasting provides the environmentally sustainable answer. Khemsoft's process is completely environmentally responsible. In addition to being clean and safe, it is also important to remember that Khemsoft's dry ice is obtained as a byproduct of other industrial processes - i.e. it is made from reclaimed CO2. Anti-microbial product making washrooms and feminine hygiene units cleaner and safer Welsh biosciences company Genesis Biosciences has developed what it says is anti-microbial technology for the facilities management industry, which provides protection to users of feminine hygiene units through a patented 'vapour technology', based on a natural active ingredient being supported under the European Biocidal Products Directive. In 2015 the EU, under the Biocidal Products Regulations, launched an approved suppliers list to better regulate the supply of biocidal products in Europe; improving safety for users and product quality. Only products containing biocidal materials from an approved supplier can be legally traded in the EU market. See in action independent inspections that underpin CHSA's Accreditation Schemes The Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) has released a video of its Independent Inspector, Martin Yates, at work, proving the rigour of the auditing process that underpins the CHSA's Marque of Quality. New wipe meets growing need for touchscreen compatible products in healthcare environments PDI's new Easy Screen cleaning wipe addresses the increasing use of touchscreen equipment in healthcare and the need for compatible cleaning products. According to the Epocrates 2014 Mobile Trends Report, the presence of 'digital omnivores' - a clinician regularly using digital devices including tablets, smartphones and computers - was 41% in the US in 2014 and was predicted to increase to 74% in 2015. One of the biggest surges was expected to come from tablet usage, going from 45% in 2014 to 80% in 2015. Withstanding the apparent increase in touchscreen device usage in healthcare, a June 2015 study in the American Journal of Infection Control stated that proper protocols are lacking to address sensitive surfaces like touchscreen devices. Robots, apps and connected technology to star at ISSA/Interclean Amsterdam 2016 With only weeks to go until the 26th edition of the ISSA/Interclean Amsterdam show opens its doors on 10th May, RAI Amsterdam has revealed more details on what to expect at the show. The 2016 show will feature over 800 exhibitors from over 45 countries, showcasing their cleaning and hygiene products and solutions in a total floor area of approximately 60,000sq.m. RAI also reports that more live demonstrations are to be given across the show floor than ever before, including in the Outdoor Cleaning Show and High Pressure Demonstration Area where visitors will be encouraged to 'try-it-yourself' with many of the products on display. Contractor champions 21st century facilities for 18th century London buildings Julius Rutherfoord has won a cleaning contract with Howard de Walden Estates to maintain a number of prestigious heritage buildings across 92 acres of Marylebone, central London. The Howard de Walden Estate, whose deep historic connections to Marylebone date back to around 1710, is the freehold owner of most of the buildings. It manages and leases properties to residential, office, medical and retail sectors across an area that extends from Marylebone High Street in the west to Portland Place in the east and from Wigmore Street in the south to Marylebone Road in the north. Call2Recycle and partners motivate battery users to clean, renew, recycle and win! Call2Recycle Canada, North America's first and largest consumer/business battery stewardship organisation, has announced its 2016 Spring Cleaning Campaign, offering consumers and businesses across Canada a chance to win prizes for sharing their recycling stories while doing their annual Spring Cleaning. Every Spring, millions of Canadians declutter rooms, clean out dusty corners, and discard old items for new ones - and of course businesses are replacing batteries all the time. One common item that should not be overlooked is used batteries. The Preparation Group's open days were a great success The Open Days held by The Preparation Group at its Lincoln Training & Demonstration Centre to mark the company's 25th anniversary earlier this month, were a great success. "We were delighted by the turnout," says managing director Tracey Glew. "Visitors attended from a wide range of sectors and backgrounds. It was our chance to showcase the latest innovations through practical demonstrations of new products and a great way for our visitors to share ideas and network in an informal, relaxed environment." Weltec Biopower upgrades municipal wastewater treatment plant in Bavaria The increasing restriction of the agricultural use of sewage sludge is associated with mounting pressure on municipalities and sewage treatment providers. Moreover, the high power needs drive up the expenses of wastewater treatment plants. As a result, more and more sewage treatment plants decide to employ energy-saving sludge stabilisation in an anaerobic reactor and utilisation of the digestion gas for the generation of energy.
