Products Study provides new perspective on concept of HAIs More than 80% of hospitalised patients who tested positive for Clostridium difficile were tested outside the hospital or within the first 72 hours of hospitalisation, suggesting that settings outside of the hospital may play key roles in the identification, onset and possible transmission of the disease, according to a new Kaiser Permanente study published today in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings. |
Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 163 countries worldwide! I had to chuckle when I received a press release about how much more quickly a vehicle will depreciate in value if it's not looked after propertly - and that includes cleaning and polishing, which helps preserve the bodywork! I've always believed that a car, van or lorry with the owner's company details emblazoned on it is a 'shop window' for the company every bit as much as a real shop frontage is, be it on the high street, side street or industrial park, in as much as it reflects the company's image. Likewise, the way a company car or van driver conducts him or herself on the road will give other road users and pedestrians a perception of what your company is like. Is your vehicle reflecting the image you wish it to? And how about your colleagues and employees? And what about your driving? Are you aware of the impression you and your employees are giving, as you go about your business? With the press release mentioned at the start of this leader, was an image of a car with the words 'wash me' written in the dirt. How often have you seen something similar on the road, with the vehicle concerned advertising itself as belonging to some cleaning company or other (and sometimes with a dirty cloth flapping about in the breeze, tied to the end of a window cleaner's ladder)? Does this make you think the cleaning company concerned is a good one? I thought not... ISSA and CIRI announce improvements to the Clean Standard ISSA and the Cleaning Industry Research Institute (CIRI) announced yesterday, improvements to the ISSA Standard for Measuring the Effectiveness of Cleaning in K-12 Schools (Clean Standard) that enhance its use in evaluating cleaning processes at school facilities. The Clean Standard provides K-12 schools with a tool that helps them evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of their cleaning processes using both a quantitative measure (i.e., ATP meters) and traditional inspection methods. The ability to objectively evaluate cleaning processes and products is critical to providing a safe and healthy indoor environment for school-age children. Edinburgh Royal Infirmary cleaning to be brought back in house Hospital cleaning services at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary are going to be brought back in house as part of the ongoing fight against superbugs - despite the facility’s inspection reports showing that the hospital has consistently scored well and cases of MRSA have almost been eradicated, reports the Edinburgh Evening News. BICSc upgrades training programme The British Institute of Cleaning Science is about to release an updated version of its internationally recognised qualification, the CPSS (Cleaning Professionals Skills Suite).

CK Group on schedule to complete Bart’s Hospital builders clean this Autumn CK Group, which won the builders cleaning contract for the Bart’s Hospital refurbishment programme on behalf of Skanska, is on course to complete the project this Autumn as expected. The programme is currently in the second stage of three, with the first phase having been completed by CK Group in 2009. The full builders clean will be carried out until September 2014. This includes maintenance and clinical cleaning of all areas, internal and external glazing. The total area covered by the cleaning contract is approximately 35,000sq.ft. Invest in the best – for strength and success Professional window cleaners need tools they can rely on - and when it comes to water fed poles, Unger knows that certain features are essential. Poles must be strong and sturdy, but light enough for comfort and ease of use, while also retaining the rigidity needed for cleaning windows or façades at all heights.
However, the lightest poles aren’t necessarily the best, as Matt Hodgkins, sales & marketing director for Unger UK, explains: JLL awards In Depth contract to clean and maintain seven Honeywell aerospace sites Cleaning and soft FM specialist, In Depth Managed Services, has been awarded a two-year contract worth £400k to clean and maintain seven aerospace sites for Honeywell. The contract has been awarded through global financial and professional services firm, JLL, which has named In Depth as its preferred cleaning and maintenance supplier. Five steps to safer kitchen floors Restaurants are a minefield for slip and fall accidents, and most of these occur in the ‘back of the house’, or the kitchen area. According to the National Floor Safety Institute in the US, each year more than three million foodservice employees are injured as a result of slip and fall accidents. Further, it is estimated that these accidents cost the foodservice industry more than $2 billion each year, and this number is rising by 10% every year. Just imagine what the global figures must be! While owners of classic cars are known for their TLC, millions of new car and van owners are depreciating the value of their cars by failing to keep them in good condition, a poll has found.
The study, by car care company Autoglym, reveals that motorists and business owners could lose as much as £2,000 when reselling their vehicles, but with a few simple care tips cash strapped car owners and busy fleet managers could save themselves thousands. David Garcia, Chairman of Polaris Plastics and Treasurer of the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association responds to a recent leader* Hi Jan, That was a very interesting piece regarding tattoos and in particular your leisure activities and all that goes with it. I am not at all surprised at your choice of leisure entertainment, garb and personal decoration. All strength to you. With regards to the tattoo issue, I totally agree that employers must have the right to protect their businesses and as a result their staff in general provided of course it is lawful so to do. Spotless Cleaning Solutions reminds us of the importance of emergency cleaning services Taking early action is imperative if your business faces water damage as a result of flood, an unexpected leaking roof or the fire sprinklers doing their job. Preventing further damage and recovering the property are two crucial operations that have to be carried out simultaneously but it’s difficult to get it right.
