Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! Not long after I first joined the cleaning industry back in the early nineties, I attended my first National Carpet Cleaners Association conference. I can remember feeling inspired when the British Cleaning Council’s marketing and public relations guru, Jay Grenby, spoke about the work that was being done to make the NCCA logo the carpet cleaning equivalent of the Corgi (now Gas Safe) registration that every gas fitter has to have before carrying out any work – otherwise he or she is breaking the law. Of course with customers generally wanting to buy cheap rather than pay a bit more for a top quality job, Jay had a difficult task ahead of her and the baton for NCCA recognition has been passed to various people over the ensuing years. And although we’re not quite there yet, we have seen quite a significant result this week: the NCCA tie in with TrustMark. You can read more about it below. If you’re unfamiliar with TrustMark, this really is something for the NCCA to celebrate. John and I produce an e-zine – similar to Cleanzine – for the kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms industry and it is widely acknowledged amongst our peers that however wonderful (and expensive!) a newly fitted kitchen, bathroom or bedroom might be, it’s only going to be as good as the fitter that installed it. Use a dodgy tradesperson and the furniture and appliances will be tarred with the same brush, even if it’s 100% the tradesperson’s fault that things haven’t worked out. I believe that the NCCA, by becoming involved with the TrustMark scheme, has achieved something of a coup. I also wonder, how long it’s going to take before other sectors of the UK cleaning industry decide to follow suit. Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine You can also follow us on Twitter @cleanzine Yours, This Week's News

Prevent Legionnaires this Summer June marks the anniversary of the widespread Legionnaires' outbreak which affected 50 people throughout Edinburgh hospitals in 2012. To prevent a disaster of this nature happening again, Ecex, sole UK distributor of Air Intake Screens, (as manufactured by Air Solutions Company USA) which can help minimise the risk of legionnaires, urges those responsible for cooling towers and other HVAC equipment, to take appropriate steps in order to stop this potentially fatal disease in its tracks. When nature calls, Fresh Dab Toilet Paper Gel answers Sometimes toilet tissue just isn't enough, but the biggest problem with bathroom wipes, (also known as personal, baby, body or wet wipes) is that they are designed not to degrade when exposed to water as they are pre-moistened.
Even wipes marketed as 'flushable' can take too long to break down and damage sewage systems. There have been more stories in the news recently about wipes clogging everything from home plumbing to sewer pipes in the streets to waste water treatment facilities, so a solution to the problem is clearly needed.
