Next week John and I fly out to Amsterdam to visit the ISSA/Interclean exhibition, which is taking place at the Amsterdam RAI from 6th – 9th May. This show is always enormous and we understand from the organisers that this time around it’s going to be even bigger and better. I always complain that four days doesn’t give us enough time to see all that’s on offer – so goodness only knows how we’ll get round to everyone – but we will do our best!
As we have done for the past five shows in the series, we’ll be bringing you a flavour of the event, together with news on the awards winners and many of the new products and innovations we discover, in our Show Daily.
If you’ve never visited this show before and are wondering whether or not to attend, our advice would be to start planning your trip now – it really is something that’s not to be missed if you have the time to spare and the budget. Do make sure you register in advance though, as there are always queues at the turnstiles.
And if you see us, do come and say ‘hello’, won’t you?
Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine

This Week's News
A new report by the World Health Organisation (WHO)-its first to look at antimicrobial resistance, including antibiotic resistance, globally-reveals that this serious threat is no longer a prediction for the future, it is happening right now in every region of the world and has the potential to affect anyone, of any age, in any country.
Antibiotic resistance-when bacteria change so antibiotics no longer work in people who need them to treat infections-is now a major threat to public health and we need to do everything we can to prevent the spread of infection.
Inteb says the possible mutation of the Legionella bacteria that has been noted, which allows it to survive at temperatures up to 61 degrees C, is one reason to tighten up the law. It adds that the temptation for organisations to lower the temperatures at which they are heating water, to save electricity, is another reason to introduce tighter regulation.
Scotland is featuring regularly on news bulletins and in the Press, thanks to the historic referendum taking place on 18th September 2014, on whether or not to become an independent country. How will the people vote: 'Yes', or 'No'? One thing we know people are saying 'Yes' to is Cleaning Expo Scotland, which is taking place just a couple of weeks before the referendum, on 3th and 4th September, at Glasgow's SECC.
With stand space almost sold out and the numbers of visitors who have pre-registered to attend, growing daily, the enthusiasm surrounding this new event is becoming infectious!
New research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, the professional body for Human Resources and people development, has found that rigid organisational hierarchies are one of the main barriers to improving management and leadership skills in today's workplaces.
Many employees without formal managerial responsibility are now expected to own the organisation's agenda, lead from the front line and do 'the right thing' for the customer and for their employer - an approach known as 'distributed leadership' - but poorly targeted training and restrictive organisational structures are getting in the way.
Many companies need hot water in their production processes. An innovative system from Dresden (Germany) based DAS Environmental Expert GmbH now facilitates heat transfer from wastewater to process water. This helps to optimise the temperatures in the water flows, which significantly increases efficiency with regard to both energy usage and wastewater treatment.
The 'masters of the science of compliance', the team from Swiftclean Building Services, will be offering a free compliance healthcheck to visitors to The Facilities Show, which is being held at Excel, London, from 17th - 19th June.
Using the new Swiftclean Compliance Checker, an online tool which allows building managers to see at a glance whether their building is compliant in three key aspects, Swiftclean's experts will be able to diagnose in a matter of seconds whether a building has a clean bill of health or is storing up health & safety problems for the future.
Air travellers in and out of Las Vegas now have an added measure of personal security in the form of an advanced cleaning technology. McCarran International Airport has installed Ecolab's new Hydris cleaning system to help make the airport cleaner, safer and healthier for travellers and airport employees.
McCarran handles more than 42 million arrivals and departures annually, the nation's ninth-highest passenger volume, which puts it in the top 1% of US airports. On average, 115,000 people travel through the airport every day.
Clemas & Co, the specialist supplier of industrial and commercial floor cleaning machines, has been singing the praises of Tennant's T2 compact battery powered walk behind scrubber dryer. Ideal for cleaning small congested areas in one pass; the machine is faster and more productive than using a mop and bucket whilst providing the highest level of cleanliness.
The operator on the roof raises and lowers the unit using the hoist motor and moves the unit and rigging as each section is cleaned. A second operator on the ground also helps move the unit from section to section.
RPC Emballages Moirans has launched what is believed to be the first UN certified 20 litre container to weigh just 700g. The new 320 range, blow moulded in HDPE, is part of an ongoing enhancement programme at the site which over the years has seen the weight of its 20 litre UN container reduced from 900g to first 800g and now 700g.
Key to the success of this project has been RPC's ability to reduce the amount of material required to manufacture the container, while ensuring that it retains the necessary robustness and strength to safely handle and transport hazardous products.
Ecoppia, an innovative developer of autonomous water-free solar panel cleaning solutions, has announced that JA Solar, a leading manufacturer of photovoltaic solar panels, has certified Ecoppia's solution for use on its solar panels.

In March, RAS (The Restroom Association of Singapore) was approached by a lecturer from the Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL-MITEC) who requested to visit RAS on a study trip with a group of Malaysian government delegates.
The purpose of the visit was to gain some information about how RAS conceptualises and develops projects to improve public washroom facilities in Singapore.
A free guide, with five key steps to choosing a reliable and professional commercial cleaning organisation, has been launched by commercial cleaning and disaster restoration specialist, ServiceMaster Clean.
"Too often, individuals without specialist training are given the task of cleaning," argues the company. "Boardroom carpets, reception area hard floors and upholstered sofas should be regularly and professionally cleaned to give a positive message about the quality of your company. Choosing the right cleaning provider makes economic sense, as appropriate care and treatment will lengthen the serviceable life of these surfaces. So what issues need to be considered when sourcing a reliable and professional contract cleaner?"
Mark Munro tells us that the WCP Tradeshow / Van Festival, is attracting exhibitors that we'd normally expect to see at some of the larger exhibitions - companies such as Window Cleaners' Warehouse, Unger, Sebo, FaceLift, Aquadapter, HydraMaster, Alltec Network and many more. And the Van Festival is not what you might expect either... many industry operators have to kit their vans out with products and equipment and the idea is that those attending the show throw the doors of their work vans open to other visitors, to share ideas and experiences on what works well and what doesn't. Now that's what we call networking!
