We have Mail: Any idiot can clean? With reference to your recent lead article (Any idiot can clean? www.facebook.com/Cleanzine), those of us connected to the cleaning industry are blighted before we even start. Skilled professionals in all their individual areas, (engineers, surgeons, pilots etc) are respected for their skill, their knowledge, and their application. We all admire them, but unfortunately every adult on the planet is a cleaner!! All have been made to clean at some time in their life at home, or in their personal environment, and they think they are now experts, so when a professional cleaner performs, he or she is facing silent but intense scrutiny from the outset. Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! I know that as a long-serving and committed member of the cleaning industry I should advocate the need for the regular and thorough cleaning of as many locations as possible. However, it was only with a slight tinge of guilt that I felt totally exasperated upon reading one of a series of notices placed on alternate lamp posts all the way up my mother's road a couple of weeks back. Someone from the local council had decreed that no-one was to park in the road on Tuesday as the street was going to be 'cleansed'. Cleansed? There are vast amounts of rubbish in and around the stream running between my mother's house and mine, while the volume of discarded gum on the pavement outside the newly completed Epsom station and adjacent Travelodge actually make me feel quite ashamed - although of course none of it is mine!
I know the many potholes that are damaging our vehicles and making travelling difficult for those with bad backs and the like are the responsibility of a different council department, but where is the common sense in all this? Today many of us across the UK are voting in local council elections.
