Products Poor hospital cleaning revealed in recent Canadian study The health of hospital patients, staff and visitors is increasingly at risk according to a March 2012 study reported by Erica Johnson of the Canadian Broadcasting Company reports Robert Kravitz. Brussels is to push for EU-wide minimum wage Yesterday, the European Commission proposed the introduction of a minimum wage in countries such as Germany - which doesn't at present have one - and raise wages where they are considered too low, according to a draft seen by EurActiv. Having a job will not necessarily ward off poverty in Europe, argues the organisation, pointing out that some 8% of European workers are having to survive on wages that keep them below the poverty threshold. Trojan Battery names C.I.A.K. distributor for eastern Europe Trojan Battery Co, has partnered with Zagreb, Croatia-based C.I.A.K., expanding Trojan's presence in eastern Europe. As Trojan's authorised master distributor in the region, C.I.A.K. is responsible for distributing and servicing Trojan products throughout Slovenia, Bosnia and Hercegovina and Croatia (Hrvatska ),Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania and Albania. RCM obtains the ECA Certificate RCM is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the ECA Certificate - provided under an initiative launched by the British Government to improve the 'Green' credentials of industrial cleaning equipment. New Sustainability Guide details how to measure carbon footprint The International Facility Management Association Foundation has announced the release of ‘Carbon Footprint’, a free publication in the Sustainability ‘How-to’ Guide Series’ offering facilities managers a comprehensive approach to understanding greenhouse gas emission accounting, reporting and minimisation. Registration to the 19th WFBSC is now open The 19th International Congress of World Federation of Building Service Contractors (WFBSC 2012) will take place in Curitiba - Brazil from October 10th - 14th. Breaking more records: ISSA/Interclean Amsterdam 2012 ISSA/Interclean Amsterdam 2012 has proven to be essential event for the industry, by offering an even more international and diverse attendance than the previous edition. It was the biggest and best showing of the past 24 editions, increasing attendance to a record-breaking number. ISSA/Interclean 2012: show review The Crowning Moment Vermop Salmon's Mag mopping system, which had so impressed us when we first saw it at CMS Berlin in September, was announced the overall winner. The winning team were clearly delighted and so were we as this cleverly designed mopping system, which uses magnets to attach the mophead to the mop is unlike anything we've ever seen before. Tork stand at ISSA was 'Designed for your convenience' Tork products are 'Designed for your convenience' - that was the key message from SCA at ISSA/Interclean. The Tork stand incorporated a number of convenient features for visitors - including water bottles, protein bars and even a baker on hand to provide freshly-baked cinnamon buns. There was also a wash-station allowing visitors to freshen up on the go. Rubbermaid Hygen Clean Water System awarded BICSc Accreditation Everyone on the Rubbermaid Commercial Products stand, was delighted that the company's Hygen Clean Water System had been awarded a Cleaning System Standards Certificate of Accreditation from the British Institute of Cleaning Science. Vikan demonstrated how you can gain 30% more efficiency and hygiene with the launch of three new tools at the show: a long handled dustpan and brush (pictured), a flip mop and a wall bracket. Tomcat's Clean Caddie offers auxiliary cleaning option Yet another innovation that really impressed us at the show was the Clean Caddie by Tomcat. "This is an optional three-dimensional cleaning accessory that can be easily mounted to the Mini Mag series auto scrubber," explained a helpful William Koeppel. from Chris Cracknell, OCS, on a conference session that impressed: Just a quick email to say that I thought the session with the World Health Organisation's Professor Didier Pittet and the panel, 'Cleaning in the 21st Century', was probably one of the best sessions I have heard at any of these events. International employers initiative launches Yesterday saw the merger in Brussels of three organisations to form Europe's largest trade union federation. But Robin Chater, Secretary-General of the Federation of European Employers (FedEE), warns that such mergers "only serve to give a bigger power base to militant activists who now form the core of most unions in Europe. That is why employers also need to achieve 'solidarity' - starting with a new initiative to be launched later this month. FedEE reports." Crothall Healthcare releases Infection Prevention White Paper US environmental services provider Crothall Healthcare (said to be the only healthcare cleaning company to achieve CIMS and CIMS-GB certifications, with honours, from ISSA) has announced the release of its Infection Prevention White Paper. Thisvcomprehensive and exhaustively researched document summarises both the importance of environmental hygiene to a hospital's infection prevention and control programme and Crothall's integrated environmental services approach to patient safety through reduced transmission of healthcare-associated infections. Themes of the WFBSC 2012 presentations chosen A number of the themes for presentations during the 5-day, 19th World Federation of Building Service Contractor (WFBSC) International Congress, to be held in Curitiba on October 10th to 14th, have already been chosen. Early-bird tickets for forthcoming BCC Conference, now released Early-bird tickets (priced at £99) have just been released for the British Cleaning Council's Conference 2012: Business Efficiency and Innovation, which is being held on 23rd October 2012 at Coin Street Conference Centre, London. Connect Hygiene Products to launch new foam soap range Connect is launching a new range of foam soaps and dispensers under the Leonardo brand.
